The thesis deals with the interesting problem of conditional imperatives like Close the window and I will kill you.

[NB. At one point in the thesis there is discussion of examples like You only have to be blond and nobody likes you. These are explored at the end of the paper on “Anatomy of a Modal” that Sabine Iatridou and I have been circulating for a while. I wish that Franke had looked at our paper, because we certainly would profit from comments on it.]
